Waterways Ireland will dredge the Royal Canal between Lock 2 and Lock 3 (between Binn’s Bridge and Glengarriff Parade) over the coming weeks. This will involve relocating the fish, draining the canal, drying the canal bed and removing the silt from the canal bed by truck. The process will begin on Wednesday 27th September and finish in early November.
This is necessary to keep the Canal navigable for larger boats. This is not part of the Royal Canal Greenway Phase 3 but the Greenway works will be paused for the duration of the dredging process.
