How the numbers are counted
Only public service routes count. These are routes run under contract to the National Transport Authority by Bus Éireann, Dublin Bus, Go-Ahead Ireland, City Direct, TFI Local Link operators, town bus contractors, etc.
Commercial services never count. That includes CityLink, Aircoach, Expressway, etc.
New means a route that did not run before. Improved means an existing route that gets more services. Route extensions also count as improved routes except when they’re minor reroutes or added stops on an existing route.
BusConnects phases often replace existing routes so a new route number is not always a new route. BusConnects routes are usually counted as improved routes. The additional routes count as new when a phase adds more routes than it withdraws.
A route that replaces or splits from an older public service route counts as improved. A public service route that takes over from a withdrawn commercial service counts as new.
Pilots and seasonal trials do not count.
A route counts toward the year it goes live. Announced routes are listed until they start.
