Mount Bernard Park to be extended soon

After many years, work on the extension of Mount Bernard Park will begin in the coming weeks. The park will be extended north into the disused former CIÉ and Luas Cross City lands as far as the Royal Canal. This will increase the size of the park by over 50%.

An accessible perimeter pathway route will be constructed around the disused site. Due to the contamination of the land beneath, there will be minimal excavation of the land and as much of the existing biodiversity and vegetation that has grown over the land will be preserved. Once the new path is constructed, it will be connected to the existing path network in the park.

It’s anticipated that initial site clearance and grading works will commence in the coming weeks, followed by construction of the pathway once the route through the vegetation is established and agreed. This project will be funded by the National Transport Authority as a community benefit project through the BusConnects programme.
